Niiname (新嘗) is an important festival where the Emperor offers new rice to the gods in the Imperial Palace and also partakes in it himself. This festival is held as a grand celebration at shrines nationwide, where the first fruits are offered, and a ritual is conducted to report the gratitude and joy for this year's harvest to the deity. Among the rituals related to abundant harvests, this festival is particularly esteemed.
