Tamai Festival (Horigome's Dengaku Dance)

A precious folk performing art 'Dengaku Dance'
Horigome's Dengaku Dance, designated as an intangible cultural asset of the city, is a folk performing art dedicated annually during the Futarasan Shrine's festivals: the Haruwatari Festival (January 15), the Dengaku Festival (May 15), and the Fuyuwatari Festival (December 15). It began as an agricultural ritual praying for a good harvest in the Heian period, transformed into a performing art in the Kamakura and Muromachi periods for display purposes, and has since been incorporated into shrine festivals and events.
