It is said that the first Kemari was played by Fujiwara no Kamatari at the Kemari gathering of Hōkō-ji Temple in Asuka with Prince Naka no Ōe. This elegant festival is held in connection with the story that led to the "Taika Reformation." Currently, it takes place every year on April 29th (Showa Day) and November 3rd (Culture Day).
