Koinakami Tiger Dance

Festival of Tiger Subjugation
Every year on the night of August 14th of the lunar calendar, this is held as a festival of the Kinomiya Shrine. This Tiger Dance is based on a part of the play 'Kokushenya Gassen' written by the Edo period playwright Chikamatsu Monzaemon, where the Han person 'Wato Nai' encounters a great tiger while approaching a bamboo grove, and after a struggle, captures the tiger alive and brings it back. Designated as an intangible cultural asset of Shizuoka Prefecture.
