The autumn leaves reflected in the pond create an elegant atmosphere.

Shimizuen

Early Nov~Mid-Nov 09:00~16:30

Shimizuen was created as the lower residence of the Mizoguchi family and was also called Shimizuya Goten. The spacious garden spans 15,200 square meters and was created by inviting the Edo period's garden master, Ken Souchi. It features a purely Kyoto style that incorporates the eight scenic views of Omi, with a strolling garden centered around a large pond shaped like the cursive character 'water.' The water in the pond highlights the colors of the trees with each season, creating an indescribable charm. The successive lords of the Shibata clan placed great importance on the tea ceremony, and tea gatherings are still held today at Shimizuen and the Ichikonyo Tea House.
