[Autumn Leaves - Best Viewing] Nioji Mountain

A representative mountain of Shibata, counted among Japan's 200 famous mountains, located in the northern part of the Echigo Mountains. It has long been a place of faith, and at the trailhead, there is the 'Nioji Shrine,' which became a nationally registered tangible cultural property in March 2024. The hiking trail is well-maintained, with signposts at key points. It offers a panoramic view of the Iide mountain range and the Echigo plains, and on clear days, you can see the Sea of Japan in the distance. The scenery is particularly stunning during the seasons of remaining snow, fresh greenery, and autumn leaves, making it a place where mountaineers never cease to visit.
