In association with Kansai Culture Day, it will be open to the public for free. Minato Goten (the inner palace) was part of the Kishu Tokugawa family's villa located on the vast grounds of present-day Wakayama City near the mouth of the Kinokawa River. After its construction by the second lord Mitsusada in the 11th year of the Genroku era, it was completely destroyed by repeated fires, but it was newly constructed by the 11th lord Naijun and completed in the 5th year of the Tempo era. The inner palace was moved to Higashi 4-chome in Wakayura in the early Meiji period, and later relocated again to Yosuiten in Nishihama (a nationally designated scenic spot and samurai garden) and has been open to the public since Heisei 18 (2006). ■Notes For inquiries on Saturdays and Sundays, please contact Minato Goten (073-444-4188).
