2023 Oasa Shrine Grand Festival
Nakagawa City Tourism Association

A colorful night in Asou, a competition of floats and dances

In Asou, Nakagawa City (near Asou Community Center)

10/18(Sat)

10/19(Sun)

10/20(Mon)

The festival of the Oasa Shrine is enlivened by the Sawa-style floats adorned with dolls that come from the five districts of Asou. Gentsu features the figure of the great deity Kibitsuhiko no Mikoto, Kamana showcases Sugawara no Michizane, Shimofuchi represents Emperor Keikō, Tamachi portrays Ketsunomikoto, and Honjo displays the figure of Takemikazuchi no Kami. The music and hand dance performed during the float pulling retain the strong influence of the Edo period, when wealthy merchants from Sawara promoted the Edo-style festival, allowing spectators to see elegant and dynamic hand dances during the grand collective dance competed by the young teams from the five districts.
