A World of Knowledge and Beauty Blooming in Akashi

Akashi City Cultural Museum

9/20(Sat)~11/3(Mon) 09:30~17:30

In the mid-Edo period, the poet Yanada Seigan lived his later years as a Confucian scholar serving the Akashi domain. Watanabe Kazan, who is famous as a painter and Dutch scholar, also had connections to Akashi. This exhibition presents the poems and inscriptions left by Yanada Seigan, showcasing the appearance of Akashi at that time and his interactions with the surrounding people, as well as introducing the lesser-known relationship between Watanabe Kazan and the Akashi domain lord and samurai through Kazan's paintings and documents with his disciple, Tsubaki Tsubuyama.
