Special Exhibition 'Ancient Provincial Officials and the Kokushi-kan - Officials from the Capital and Their Residences'

What are the provincial officials and Kokushi-kan that characterize the ancient provincial capital?
Fuchu City Museum of Local History, 2nd Floor Planning Exhibition Room
7/26(Sat)~11/3(Mon) 09:00~17:00
In the Nara and Heian periods, Fuchu was the location of the provincial capital of Musashi Province. The provincial capital, which was the center of politics, economy, and culture, saw officials known as 'Kokushi' come from the capital, wielding significant power to govern domestically. The residence of the Kokushi was called 'Kokushi-kan' and served as a venue for political affairs and banquets. Within Fuchu City, the excavation of the site of the provincial capital has revealed two locations of the Kokushi-kan. This exhibition will explore the true nature of the Kokushi and the Kokushi-kan through the findings of the excavations and historical documents.
