Washoku - The Nature of Japan and the Wisdom of Its People

"Washoku" has been established and uniquely developed against the backdrop of the diverse nature of the Japanese archipelago and the wisdom and history of its people. Moreover, it continues to evolve while flexibly embracing foreign food cultures. Twelve years after being registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, "Washoku" is garnering increasing attention from around the world. This exhibition vividly introduces the charm of Washoku, which may seem familiar yet is surprisingly little known, including diverse ingredients, people's wisdom and ingenuity, historical transitions, and challenges for the future.

Closed on Tuesdays. * However, the gallery will be open on September 23rd (Tuesday, public holiday). Entry to the exhibition is until 19:30.

Adults: 1,600 yen (1,200 yen), Seniors [65 and over]: 1,200 yen (1,000 yen), Students [high school age and above]: 900 yen (700 yen), Free for middle school students and younger. ※ The prices in parentheses are advance ticket prices.

Access (Public)

From Aso Kumamoto Airport, take the Limousine Bus to "Tsuimachizusshi" bus stop, approximately a 1-minute walk from "Tsuimachizusshi" tram station at JR Kumamoto Station.
