Present-day Morioka (especially the city center) is based on a castle town that was systematically constructed around Morioka Castle, the residence of the Morioka feudal lord Nanbu family. What was the intention behind the planning of this castle town over 400 years ago? Additionally, what significance does the shape of the castle town, which has been passed down to the present day, hold? Using various materials centered on existing maps of Morioka Castle Town, we will explore the purposes and urban features of Morioka Castle Town.
