The hagi at Kairakuen is said to have been planted by Tokugawa Nariaki, the 9th lord of the Mito domain, who received them from the Sendai domain, at the time of the park's establishment. In autumn, about 750 plants, mainly Miyagino hagi, as well as white hagi, mountain hagi, and maruba hagi, bloom charming flowers.
