Tochigi City Museum of Art

10/10(Fri)~12/14(Sun) 09:30~17:00

Kitagawa Utamaro, a ukiyo-e artist representing bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women), is known for his kyoka (comic poetry) and has also worked on illustrations for kyoka books. In the Edo period, kyoka flourished in Tochigi City, and a local wealthy merchant, Tsuyoko Tei Tokunari (commonly known as Kamaki), interacted with Utamaro through kyoka. This exhibition features ukiyo-e and kyoka by Utamaro, including examples connected to Tochigi City.
