Glass bead making became a popular side job for farmers in the Shinoda region during the Meiji period. During the Taisho period, the production of artificial pearls made by painting those glass beads also became popular. Try your hand at the technique of 'Shinoda glass,' where glass rods melted using a kerosene burner are wrapped around an iron rod to create glass beads. The instructor will be Kuniko Sano from the glass workshop 'Kun.' This event requires prior application (first-come, first-served up to capacity). On the day of the event, gather in the Human Rights Materials Room and walk approximately 1.5 km to the workshop.
