On this day at the pilgrimage center Ise Sanjo, the mountain ascetics in vestments close the doors of the Iwaya Main Hall. In front of the Ippukudera Hall at the foot of the mountain, said to have been opened by En no Ozunu, the founder of the Shugendo about 1300 years ago, a goma fire ritual and fire-walking ceremony are held, where local residents pray for abundant harvests, good health, and safety of the mountain.
