The publisher, who undertakes everything from planning Ukiyo-e projects to appointing artists and directing engravers and printers, can be seen as a comprehensive producer. This exhibition traces how these publishers produced Hokusai and created their works. Tsutaya Jūzaburō, who took an early interest in Hokusai, Nishimuraya Yohachi, who made 'Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji' a hit, and Eirakuya Tōshirō, who published 'Hokusai Manga,' are among the Edo-period publishers featured, along with contemporary publishers who continue to produce Ukiyo-e works inspired by Hokusai.
