[Autumn Leaves - Peak Season] Yamagata Shield

Transcending time, reflecting autumn leaves, Mogami River.

Yamagata Shield

10/20(Mon)~11/5(Wed)

The Yamagata Shield is a medieval castle (shield) built on the summit of Mount Yamagata on the right bank of the Mogami River. In October 2014, it was designated as a national scenic spot as part of 'The Scenery of Oku no Hosomichi.' The autumn leaves of Yamagata Shield, which herald the arrival of autumn in Shinjo City, can be viewed from the vicinity of the torii gate at Yahiko Shrine on the opposite bank, as well as from the Mogami River boat ride starting from the 'Basho's Boarding Place,' where the haiku poet Basho is said to have traveled down the Mogami River by boat. The beauty of nature woven by Japan's four seasons: 'Autumn Leaves.'
