It is said that he wrote over 3,000 songs in his lifetime and elevated jazz, which was originally dance accompaniment music, to the realm of creative and sophisticated art. Until his passing in 1974 at the age of 75, he continually challenged new sounds, leading a life that embodied the concept of 'active throughout life, flourishing throughout life'.
