Revisiting historical awareness regarding colonial rule

Cultural Center Arirang

9/27(Sat) 15:00~17:00

This year marks 80 years after the war and 60 years since the Japan-Korea Treaty. There is a growing movement in both politics and society to justify the history surrounding Japan's modern wars and colonial rule while distorting inconvenient facts of victimization. Once again, there is a call for accountability regarding colonial rule, individual compensation, and historical recognition; in other words, establishing a historical awareness of the crimes and sins of colonial rule is needed. What is the historical awareness that is required? This will be discussed in relation to the history of the colonial war in Korea.
