Reiwa 7th Year Special Exhibition 'Yamaboko Travelers'

The Yamaboko, which has been held as a year-round event by the Soma family of the Nakamura domain during the Edo period, was inherited as a religious event at a shrine after the Meiji era. While being a traditional event, it is also popular as a 'sight' with many travelers visiting Soma to observe it since the Edo period. This continued after the Meiji era, and the Yamaboko became established as a specialty of Soma. This exhibition introduces the aspects of the Yamaboko as a tourism resource continuing from the Edo period from the perspective of 'travel' through materials such as maps, ancient documents, and old photographs.
