The Ueno Tenjin Festival has a history of over 400 years and is said to be one of the three major autumn festivals in the Kansai region. Leading the procession is the heaviest gohei in Japan, weighing 120 kg, followed by performers dressed as legendary figures and a procession of over a hundred demons, as well as nine gorgeous danjiri floats parading through the castle town. This festival was registered as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage in December 2016 as one of the 'Yama, Hoko, Yatai Events'.
