Utagawa Kuniyoshi "The World of Panoramic Nishikie"

Utagawa Kuniyoshi "The World of Panoramic Nishikie"
"The Battle of Kawanakajima" - Collection of the Tanaka Family Museum

A comprehensive exhibition of Kuniyoshi's large-format nishikie, presented all at once

The Tanaka Family Museum of the Merchant

9/13(Sat)~12/14(Sun)

Ukiyo-e, popularized by Tsutaya Juzaburo, became a part of popular culture and entertainment through the hands of many artists. Utagawa Kuniyoshi, who was active during the late Edo period, is known as an ukiyo-e artist who challenged new expressions without yielding to restrictions from the shogunate. This exhibition will present a series of three ukiyo-e prints from Kuniyoshi’s works held by the museum, entitled "Panoramic Ukiyo-e." By transitioning from single prints to a triptych, Kuniyoshi expanded narrative potential and brought innovation to ukiyo-e.
