A festival that has been cherished as a summer tradition in Kamakura, held every year from the day before the beginning of autumn in early August until the 9th (4 days in some years). During this period, the Summer Purification festival called "Natsu-ōri Matsuri" is held on the day before the beginning of autumn, the "Risshū Matsuri" that announces the arrival of autumn on the day of the beginning of autumn, and the "Mitsuha Matsuri" on the 9th, which is the birthday of Prince Sanetomo. As the sun sets, about 400 pieces of calligraphy and paintings made into lanterns are lit, casting a gentle light that beautifully illuminates the shrine grounds.
