Ueno Mountain has been known as a cherry blossom spot since the Edo period. After the establishment of Kan'eiji Temple, it is said that the cherry trees were transplanted by the cherry blossom-loving monk Tenkai from Yoshinoyama. During the cherry blossom viewing season, it becomes one of the most popular spots with nearly 4 million visitors (selected as one of Japan's top 100 cherry blossom spots). At the 'Ueno Cherry Blossom Festival,' performances and flower markets are held in the precincts of Shimizu-do, and after sunset, about 800 lanterns light up, allowing visitors to enjoy the night cherry blossoms. The park also features facilities such as museums, art galleries, and a zoo, making it enjoyable for walking.
