Hida Kamioka Festival

A parade reminiscent of the Heian era, one of the three major festivals of Hida
The Hida Kamioka Festival, one of the three major festivals of Hida, announces the arrival of spring in snowy Kamioka. The festivals at the two shrines and one main shrine in Kamioka Town (Otsu Shrine, Hakusan Shrine, Asakura Hachiman Shrine) are held grandly. Starting from Otsu Shrine, the beautiful sight of the procession, with flute, taiko drum, and shōko (cymbals) ringing, alongside lions, kagura (Shinto music and dance), and various portable shrines, is truly remarkable. This grand procession takes place twice, during the day and at night. The daytime features an elegant procession, while the nighttime showcases a rugged and heroic return procession, allowing for the enjoyment of two distinct appearances.
