Kimoto Shrine Grand Festival

"Abare Mikoshi" parades along with floats
Kimoto-cho was established as the main territory of the Kishu Tokugawa family during the Edo period, and the 'Okukumano Daikansho' was positioned here, flourishing as the center of the Kumano region (from east of the Kumano River to Kihoku-cho in Mie Prefecture). Kimoto Shrine, originally known as 'Waka Ichioji Gongen' (where 'Waka Ichioji' refers to Amaterasu Omikami), is said to have been transferred from its original location in the Nitta area to its current site. During the grand festival, various floats come out from different districts of Kimoto-cho, parading through the town while accompanying the divine portable shrine, which is known by the nickname 'Abare Mikoshi'.
