Suwa Shrine Donation Fireworks (Enshū Niin Hand-Rolled Fireworks)

The Strangest Festival of the Tōkaidō - Enshū Niin Hand-Rolled Fireworks
A traditional fireworks display said to have continued since the Edo period's Kyōhō era. In addition to the 'Sarutahiko Fireworks,' which burn through the pitch-black night sky with dozens of fire pillars, there are 'ōzutsu' that shoot flames up to several meters, and a festival said to be the 'strangest festival of the Tōkaidō' is held. Before the fireworks, a highlight is the 'nerikomi' where large tubes and yagura are transported to the venue in time with the lively music.
