Sanjo Festival

A traditional event where Tengu walk around
The Sanjo Festival, held as the spring grand festival of the guardian deity Sanjo Hachiman Shrine, is a traditional event known for the procession of the daimyo with a stature of 100,000 koku. Following the procession of Tengu and portable shrines through the shopping street, parents carry their 2-3 year old children on their shoulders to pray for their healthy growth, completing three laps around the Hachiman Shrine's main hall together with the portable shrine and drums in a ceremony called 'Maikomi', attracting many tourists every year. Over 100 stalls will be present.
