Exhibition "Haruko Okuhara and Modern Southern Painting"

"Southern painting," which has roots in Chinese literati painting, depicts the artist's ideal world by adding Chinese poems to landscapes and flora and fauna. This exhibition introduces works by Haruko Okuhara (1837-1913), a female southern painter from the Ibaraki Prefecture city of Koga who was active in the early Meiji period, as well as works by southern painters related to Ibaraki, such as Tōnei Inose (1838-1908), and also introduces works called new southern paintings created by artists such as Uosen Ogawa (1868-1938) during the Taisho period.

The museum is closed every Monday, but will be open on February 24 (Mon, holiday) and closed on February 25 (Tue). Admission is until 16:30.
