[Autumn Leaves - Best Viewing] Oze (Ozegahara)

Ozegahara is one of the largest high-altitude wetlands in Honshu, surrounded by the two mountains, Mt. Shibutsu and Mt. Hiuchi. The arrival of autumn in Oze is early, with the best viewing for autumn leaves around mid to late September. The wetlands begin to transition to golden and red colors with grassy autumn leaves, and the trees gradually change color as autumn progresses. In the brief remaining time before the long winter, the plants are ablaze with red hues and shine in gold. Access

About 40 minutes from Numata IC on the Kanetsu Expressway to Tokura, and about 30 minutes by shuttle bus transfer from Tokura.

Access (Public)

To Tokura: About 120 minutes by express bus from Joetsu Shinkansen Jomo Kogen Station, and about 90 minutes by express bus from Joetsu Line Numata Station.
