Toyomatsu Firefly Festival

In the Toyomatsu area, the local residents have been working to create an environment where fireflies can thrive, utilizing the cool climate and fresh river water. They hold an annual event in June to enjoy firefly viewing, seeing the revived fireflies as a regional resource to attract visitors. The event is conducted with the hope that many people will come to know the charm of Toyomatsu, where beautiful natural environments with dancing fireflies still remain. There are explanations of the ecology of fireflies and gourmet food stalls, providing enjoyment until it gets dark.

Guided tours to the firefly habitat start at 7:30 PM (shuttle bus provided). Canceled in case of heavy rain; the event will proceed even in light rain.
