Japanese Yokai Exhibition - A Gathering of Yokai from Past and Present!!
Yokai are said to have been created from reverence for nature and anxiety of the heart. After the Edo period, various types of yokai emaki (picture books) were created, and with the development of woodblock printing, yokai culture expanded dramatically. This exhibition introduces the world of yokai, which has captivated many people as both terrifying and delightful characters, centered around the Yuboto Goichi Memorial Japanese Yokai Museum (Miyoshi Mononoke Museum).
