Inyaku Shrine Spring Festival - Carp Catching Ceremony

Hitting the mud brings good health
The Inyaku Shrine Spring Festival is a festival held every April at Inyaku Shrine. In the past, when Ishikawa Shukune visited during the Lunar New Year, young local men would break the ice naked and dive into Kagami Pond to catch carp and offer them to the deity. This custom has continued to this day, with dozens of young men in traditional attire purified with sacred sake throwing carp and mud at onlookers; it is said that those who get splashed with mud will enjoy good health for that year. ■Notes The use of drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) in the area surrounding the Carp Catching Ceremony venue is prohibited.
