Takamatsu Mountain Daimonji Festival

The character 'Dai' rises in the early summer night
Every year on the last Saturday and Sunday of May, after sunset, the 'Daimon' appears on the mountainside of Takamatsu Mountain. It is a ritual for lighting lanterns in faith towards the god of fire and praying for protection against fire disasters. The mystical sight of the giant character appearing on the mountainside has become a seasonal symbol signaling the arrival of early summer in Hiroshima.
