Umezu Gorō was born in Asatada, Shirataka Town, Yamagata Prefecture. At the 12th Nitten Exhibition in 1956 (Showa 31), he received the special selection award for his work "Kitchen" depicting the kitchen of the Chinese restaurant where he worked, which was praised for its unique sense of life. In his later years, he donated over 120 of his representative works to his hometown of Shirataka Town. He passed away at the age of 83 in 2003 (Heisei 15). This time, we will introduce various paintings by Umezu Gorō.
