Mitokusan Autumn Ritual Flame Festival

Flame Festival, Lighting Gomagaki, Fire Birth Samadhi Fire Walk
The annual Flame Festival of Mitokusan is a comprehensive event centered on an ancient Shugendo ceremony where numerous yamabushi practitioners throw gomagi sticks, inscribed with people's wishes, into the fire, believing that these wishes will be granted. The fire-walking ritual, where participants walk barefoot over fire, is a secret technique of Shugendo, serving as a treasure for warding off evils, ensuring health, curing illnesses, and fulfilling great wishes.
