Cherry Blossom - Jigenzakura

A beautiful solitary cherry tree estimated to be about 140 years old.
Standing on a hill overlooking Mount Jigen (approximately 372m above sea level) in Kigetsu Town, Hirado City, is the Jigenzakura, a cherry tree about 140 years old, with a height of about 10m, a trunk circumference of about 3m, and a branch width of about 20m. This variety is similar to the Okoshimazakura, which is common in the Izu Oshima area, and it is believed that it was planted by Catholic settlers who developed the area from the early Meiji period to commemorate their efforts. It has been designated as a cultural property (natural monument) of Hirado City and blooms beautifully among the greenery in the spring mist.
