"A Discussion with My Son and Colleagues: Hiroshima Journalist Minoru Omuta" Satoshi Omuta × Takashi Hiraoka

Reflecting on Hiroshima and Journalism
Minoru Omuta (1930-2001) served as an editorial committee member and deputy editorial director at the Chugoku Shimbun. In the 1960s, he was known for being the first journalist to cover the hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors) in Okinawa under U.S. administration, and he also served as the head of the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation. What were his driving forces and sense of issues as a journalist in Hiroshima? With a quarter of a century since his death approaching next year, I would like to reflect on Hiroshima and journalism through the narratives of his son and former colleagues. The listener is Sonoko Miyazaki.
