One of the highlights of the 'Emura Lantern Festival' held every year on August 23rd and 24th is the 'Water Splashing Jizo Festival'. Children carry a wooden Jizo statue placed on a portable shrine from the gate of Juufuku-ji Temple to the Karei River. When they reach the river, they lower the portable shrine and surround the Jizo statue, splashing water on it energetically. Afterwards, the children carry the Jizo statue and parade through the town, while families bring out basins and ladles to splash water on the children, wishing for health and safety. ■Notes The contact phone number will be available from August 16th.
