Sakura - Full Bloom at Kiyokawa's Thousand Cherry Blossoms

Cherry Blossom Avenue along Route 96
This avenue, affectionately known as "Cosmos Road," has been home to the Thousand Cherry Blossom project since 1985. Centered around the Okinawa Children's Association, the project aimed to foster children's connection with trees and establish the area as a cherry blossom landmark. The project involved greening activities by local residents along the route to the historic Matsumae Domain's Togiri-jinya ruins, specifically the Thousand Cherry Blossom Avenue along Route 96. A total of 1,000 trees, consisting of 500 Ooyama cherry trees (Ezo Yamazakura) and 500 Somei Yoshino cherry trees, were planted on both sides of the road.
