Gokawa Mato Fire" and "Hometown Festival

The Danpo lights reflecting on the river surface are fantastic
The Mato fire is a traditional event held on the middle day of the spring equinox, historically centered around the Kōani River system. It is said to be the fire that illuminates everything, and to comfort the spirits of ancestors, torches called Danpo are lit along the Ani River for about 2 km. The magnificent and simple lights create a fantastic atmosphere. The Mato fire is held near Gokawa Bridge from 7:30 PM. The Hometown Festival takes place in front of Gokawa Community Center from 5:00 PM.
