Shimonja Shrine Festival Tanomosan

A folk event to pray for a good harvest
On the day of Hassaku, the first day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, the islanders gather the "Tanomo boat" at Momijidani Shimonja Shrine to pray for a good harvest and other blessings, receive purification, and then set the boats adrift in the sea. In 2009, it was selected as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Asset of Japan as "Tanomosan of Miyajima."
