The small island "Shiraishijima" floating in the Seto Inland Sea, 16 km off the coast of Kasaoka Port. Its beauty has been praised in Japanese poetry since the ancient Heian period, and it flourished during the Edo period as a vital transport hub, with its history and culture still alive today. The Shiraishi dance is a traditional Bon Odori that is said to have begun to mourn those who died in the Genpei Mizushima battle long ago. It is characterized by several types of dances, including male and female dances, performed to the rhythm of the traditional song, and has been designated as an important intangible folk cultural asset due to its unique dance form.
