Daibutsu Jiro Award Commemorative Lecture by Hiroshi Hibino: "Theatrical People Who Could Not Cooperate with the War - Goro Soganoya and Shin Hasegawa"

80 Years After the War: The War Responsibility of Literary and Theatrical Figures
80 years after the war. There has been much discussion regarding the war responsibility of literary figures, including the presence and degrees of it within popular literature, but what about theatrical people? Goro Soganoya and Shin Hasegawa received extensive support from the public throughout the pre-war and wartime periods. They actively sought to cooperate with national policies but were met with cold attitudes from the authorities. Their works, which depicted human relationships and sentiments, appeared to bureaucrats as merely pre-modern. The divide between them was rooted in their differing perceptions of 'modernity'. ■ Notes Tickets on Sale: February 15 (Saturday) from 10:00 (Ticket Pia & Daibutsu Jiro Memorial Hall counter)
