70th Kairyusai Festival
Minamata's traditional summer festival
The 'Koi' of the legendary island 'Kojijima' floating in the Suhio Sea, and the 'Ryu' taken from the dragon god who resides in the sacred mountain Ryuzan, give their names to the 70th 'Kairyusai' festival this year. In recent years, it has been conducted as a 'Port Festival' with a ship event at Minamata Port, attracting many visitors from both inside and outside the city. Furthermore, the general dance and parade will march through the city's shopping district, enhancing the festival with full participation from the citizens. This year, the ship event, parade, and general dance will all be held simultaneously!
