170th Anniversary of Sanbongi Hara Development & 167th Anniversary of Inogawa Water Supply - Taiso Festival

Foundation of the Development of Towada City - Inogawa Water Supply Memorial Festival
The foundation of Towada City was built by supplying water from Inogawa to the barren Sanbongi Hara, which was called desolate until the end of the Edo period. The Taiso Festival gathers at Taiso Hill, where the ancestors of the pioneers, including Den Nitobe, who brought water from Inogawa, rest, to express gratitude for their hardships and to pray for a bountiful harvest and the happiness of the people. This year marks the 167th anniversary of water supply as well as the 170th anniversary of the commencement of development in 1855. In addition to the special shrine seals distributed, events such as musical performances, singing, dancing for the spirits, stalls, experience corners, and storytelling will be held. ■Notes Inogawa is an artificial river supplied by the ancestors of the globally recognized international figure, Inazo Nitobe. The name Inazo is also derived from Inogawa.
