The Tokugawa shogunate's governance system under the Tokugawa family collapsed, leading to the reforms of the Meiji Restoration. The last shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, was placed under house arrest, and Ietada from the branch family of Gosanke succeeded the Tokugawa family, moving the Tokugawa main family to Suruga Fuchu (later Shizuoka). Consequently, many former bakufu officials moved to Shizuoka with the Tokugawa family. This unfolds the Meiji Restoration for the Tokugawa family and former bakufu officials in Shizuoka along with the establishment of the Shizuoka Domain and the movements of Tokugawa Yoshinobu and Ietada.
