Takegashima Shrine Festival

The summer festival held at the top in Tokushima Prefecture
As the drums resonate, the rituals take place, and the sacred object is transferred to the portable shrine. With the shouts of 'Chousaja, Chousaja', the portable shrine rushes down the stone steps, weaving vigorously through the crowds in the square. The portable shrine is submerged in the sea two or three times, soaking in the splashes of the Kuroshio Current. After coming ashore, the portable shrine enters the Otabisho at Uraiso on the east coast (Uraiso is a rocky shore facing the bay), and then the priest offers prayers, while islanders of all ages, from the elderly to children, pass under the portable shrine.
