Giant Lantern and Big Doll

Designated Tangible Folk Cultural Asset of Fukuoka Prefecture
Every year on July 21st, the 'Giant Lantern Parade' takes place, where a large lantern is paraded through the district and then displayed in the precincts of Yasaka Shrine. Additionally, the 'Big Doll Festival' (Ooninngyou Matsuri) is held on the 24th and 25th, praying for good health and safety. The giant lantern, which boasts a height of 2.5m and a diameter of 1m, depicts people, landscapes, birds, and flowers, and the big doll, affectionately known as 'Uuunin Gyou-san', both represent remarkable cultural properties that are unparalleled.
